Direct from Ethiopia

Green Coffee Selection

Direct from Ethiopia. Defined by Relationship.

Exceptional green coffee begins with relationships

Warka Coffee sources Ethiopian green coffee through direct, long-term relationships with farmers, producers, and coffee communities at origin. Our work is rooted in trust, traceability, and a deep respect for the people behind every lot.

As Ethiopian-born founders, we have built strong vertical integration in Ethiopia, especially in the Sidama region, by using our local ties, cultural understanding, and trusted relationships to connect more closely with farmers and producers. This allows us to source coffee with greater transparency, stronger accountability, and a clearer link between origin and buyer.

Our Approach

Sourcing with Depth and Purpose

We believe exceptional green coffee begins with exceptional relationships.

Our sourcing approach is not built around distance or simple transactions. It is built around direct connection, continuity, and long-term partnership. By working closely with producers at origin, Warka is able to offer coffees that carry not only regional distinction, but also the confidence that comes from a more connected supply chain.

This is especially true in Sidama, where our origin relationships have helped us establish a strong and meaningful sourcing presence.

Origin Integration

Vertical Integration at Origin

Warka Coffee has established strong vertical integration in Ethiopia, with particular strength in the Sidama region.

As Ethiopian-born founders, we have used our relationships and understanding of origin to build direct connections with farmers and producers. This model allows us to remain closely engaged throughout the sourcing journey, creating stronger visibility into quality, processing, and consistency.

For buyers, this means more than access to coffee. It means access to coffee backed by relationship, origin insight, and a sourcing structure designed for long-term value.

Full Journey

From Origin to Final Cup

What makes Warka distinct is that our perspective does not end at sourcing.

We import coffee with care, roast in Rockville, Maryland, and present our coffees through our café experience in Washington, DC. That full farm-to-cup connection gives us a practical understanding of how coffee performs beyond the point of export.

We evaluate coffee not only for its origin profile, but for how it translates in roasting, in the cup, and in the hands of the buyer. This wider perspective allows us to approach green coffee with both origin integrity and market readiness in mind.

Quality & Grading

Our green coffee selection includes both Grade 1 and Grade 2 Ethiopian coffees, chosen for their preparation quality, regional character, and cup potential.

In general, Grade 1 coffees represent a higher preparation standard and lower defect count, while Grade 2 coffees can still deliver excellent specialty performance and strong value for professional roasting programs.
